Smilers® are customised Royal Mail stamps which can include your own photos and images, as well as a selection of other graphics or personalised text which the Royal Mail allows users to create via their website or with official Royal Mail Smilers mobile apps.

My first project after joining Play Nicely was to design, architect and develop a set of hybrid HTML5 mobile apps for Android and iOS and a responsive web app, all built from the same codebase using Backbone.js and Apache Cordova.

These apps replaced the existing native Android and iOS Smilers apps in order to offer a unified and standardised user experience across the different platforms and the ability to quickly iterate over and deploy new features simultaneously in the future, without the need to co-ordinate the efforts of separate mobile app and web developers.
